  7. Identification: 15-45 in; Gray or olive above, yellow on lower sides; belly yellow or tan with a central row of gray or black spots and with a dark line on either side of the belly.

  9. Habits: Crayfish snakes are found in and around marshes, swamps, crayfish ponds and bayous in lowlands. They are mainly nocturnal and spend much of their inactive time in crawfish burrows.

  11. Distribution: Low areas of the state in the Mississippi-Atchafalaya basins, Acadiana, and the Red and Ouachita river bottoms.
